Hi!

I'm a CPA just starting a tax and bookkeeping service part time out of my house. Some of my clients want compiled financial statements, and I'm wondering what others out there are using to do this, ie - downloading to an Excel spreadsheet, using specific software, etc. My clients all use Quickbooks, but I want something more professional and their internal reports. Any input would be helpful. Thank you!

KELLY: I PERSONALLY DO NOT USE QUICKBOOKS AND DO NOT ACCEPT CLIENTS THAT DO. I CONVERT THEM OVER OR USE MYSELF VISUAL BOOKKEEPER FROM A SYSTEMS.
THE BASIC SOFTWARE IS $25.00 BUT DO NOT LET THE PRICE FOOL YOU. THIS IS VERY POWERFULL SOFTWARE AND INCLUDES THE A/R A/P GENERAL LEDGER AND PAYROLL PURCHASE ORDERS AND SALES ORDERS MODULES.FOR AN ADDITIONAL $100.00, THE INVENTORY MODULE CAN BE PURCHASED. THE INVENTORY MODULE HAS MANY FEATURES NOT FOUND IN MANY LOW TO MIDPRICED ACCOUNTING SYSTEMS INCLUDING THE ABILITY TO ASSIGN INVENTORY T0 DIFFERENT BINS AND WHAREHOUSES AS WELL AS FIFO LIFO LCM AND ACTUAL COST.
THEY ALSO HAVE A PREFERRED EDITION WHICH HAS ADDED FEATURES INDISPENSIBLE TO THE BUSINESS AND THE ACCOUNTANT.A ONE OF THESE FEATURES IS WHAT A SYTEMS CALLS MANAGEMENT OVERVIEW. THIS IS A FEATURE WHICH SHOWS DIFFERENT RATIOS AS WELL AS AGING OF AP AND AR RIGHT ON THE SCREEN AND IS CONSTANTLY UPDATED BY EVERY TRANSACTION AND DATE.
ASYTEM HAS A POLICY OF FOR EVERY SOFTWARE OR MODULE THAT IS PURCHASED BY A BUSINESS, OF GIVING THE ACCOUNTANT THE EXACT SOFTWARE AND MODULE FREE OF CHARGE. THERE ARE TWO MODULES I PERSONALLY DO NOT ALLOW THE CLIENT TO BUY BECAUSE I HAVE PURCHASED THEM MYSELF. (YOU NEED ONLY PURCHASE ONCE). THEY ARE DATA VIEW WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO DESIGN AND GIVE AN UNLIMITED AMT OF DIFFERENT REPORTS AND A ELECTRONIC PROGRAM THAT ALLOWS ME TO TRANSFER INFO FROM QUICKBOOKS AND OTHER SOFTWARE RIGHT INTO MY SOFTWARE. I AM NOW SETTING THIS UP TO DO COMLETELY PAPERLESS PAYROLL
AT 1/3 OF THE COST OF THE MAJOR PLAYERS LIKE ADP
INTUIT PAYMAXX OR PAYCHEX. IF YOU WANT ADDITIONAL INFO FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME.

Hi Kelly,

QuickBooks is the most popular accounting package on the market today. It does, however, present some restrictions when preparing full blown financial statements. With out breaking the bank, I've been pleased with this add-on from Intuit (OuickBooks Financial Statement Reporter) which will give you the ability to attach footnotes, compilation reports and change the format.

Respectfully,

Shane

Kelly-

I have worked for a mid-size CPA firm for the last 5 years and have dealt with many others. All they did is download from QB to Excel and used bond paper and a very professional binder. The results are impressive and I found that the CPA's I dealt with all did the same.

Good luck!, Ann
