Has anyone developed successful newspaper advertisements that provide good leads for an out-sourced bookkeeping business? I would be interested in what ad "wording" you have found works best for this purpose? And any "marketing angles" you have used to make appointments with your ad leads and eventually show them, "enroll them", into the advantages of outsourcing. Thank you, Ronda

Ronda: Of all the methods to generate leads, newspaper ads are the worse. This might work somewhat with tax prep but not bookkeeping. businesses usually do not look in their local newspaper for someone to do their books. I suggest you order the cd from universal on starting a bookkeeping business. The price can not be beat. FREE

First do not use the newspaper it does not work. Secondly add subcategories to your roster. Thirdly seek a great business coach. I use a business coach to this day and I am well on my way to a six figure income after 1 YEAR!!! I started out doing bookkeeping for medical practices. Now I do practice management and I have most of their medical billing work. I also added being a small business consultant to my roster. However I still do bookkeeping. A good business coach will have your business's best interest at heart and they will be available to help you at all times. The average business coach will run about $450.00 a month but it is money well spent. Even if you only use your coach for a month or two you should be able to gain quite a bit of knowledge to help you get going. I hope this helps.

Ronda.. Richard is "right on" regarding the newspaper. With the exception of tax prep if you want to build a business the best way to do it is through networking and word of mouth. Join a networking club like "Le Tip" or BNI "Business Network International". Most Chamber of Commerce's are fairly cheap to join as an individual and provide great networking resources. There's several books by Ivan R. Misner, Ph.D. on Networking. I've read the "World's Best Known Marketing Secret," it's a great resource for networking and selling yourself. If you go to www.amazon.com and search books from Ivan R. Misner, he has several new ones that look good too. My wife has a small vending business she's trying to sell and mentioned to a prospect who happens to also do daycare that Jack does bookkeeping if she would need help. The woman, said she had 5-6 friends who do day care that could probably use my help and took a dozen of my business cards.
