After being "right-sized" too many times, establishing my own business seems to make sense.
I have no problem doing bookkeeping as I am a hands-on guy.
The problem I have is with my Management Accountant CMA accreditation, is the focus on the bookkeeping part sending out signals that that I am short-changing myself?
Its like the doctor cleaning bedpans.
Any insights? |

| Frank: I WOULDN'T KNOCK BOOKKEEPERS IF I WERE YOU. IT SEEMS TO ME IT WAS THE LICENSED ACCOUNTANTS LIKE YOURSELF THAT THE FEDS SLAPPED HUGH FINES ON OR ESTABLISHED NEW REGULATIONS ON. SARBANES OXLEY??? |

Richard,
I'm not knocking bookeepers at all. I've worked with peers who ae designated accountants and those with grade 12 formal education and we were all doing the same job!
I new to this webpage and I now believe many accountants do take advantage of this site. Bookkeeping is to be a major part of my business but the feedback I'm getting from prospective clients is they scatter when they see my designation as if they feel that I would charge an arm and leg, and that perhaps an accountant would not perform bookkeeping duties. I think maybe I just was not marketing myself properly.
As far as the frauds you mention like the Enrons, Worldcoms, my friend, those were collaborative efforts of people from all backgrounds. |

I haear what you mean. I am a CPA and have an MBA and has a cPA I had bookeepers "under me" doing the bookeeping, while I would proof and was involved in a more decision and managment role.
But I guess that's life!!!
(cleaning bedpans as your business is better than working for somebody else) |
