A 2ND LINE WITH CALL FORWARDING IS A LOT CHEAPER AND UNLIKE A CELL PHONE, WOULD BE 100% DEDUCTIBLE.

Why is a cell phone that is strictly used for business only not 100% deductible?

and here's why:

At my home, my cell phone coverage is spotty, and since I don't wish to have dropped calls when I'm talking to clients, I chose the land line. Also, as the other poster mentioned, for an additional fee (about $4-5 dollars per month, I think), you can have calls forwarded to your cell phone.

Another reason I don't want clients having my cell phone number is that I don't want to take calls when I'm meeting with another client at their place of business. But that's just *my* preference; I know other bookkeepers who don't mind. For me, I want clients to know that my full attention is with them, and if I'm receiving calls on my cell phone they won't get that.

Hi Chris,
If you are using the cell phone for business only then you can get a deduction on your taxes for it. The problem is that most people also use their cell phone for personal usage so it is hard for the IRS to decipher how much time you use it for business. I have a business cell phone and I have a personal cell phone. I save all of my business cell phone bills. DO NOT give your business cell phone number to friends then you will not have to worry about marking what calls were business related. Thus you will be able to deduct the cell phone 100%.

For a 2nd land line, uou can get a phone line through the internet (you just plug your phone into the router jack instead of the wall jack) for a flat fee of roughly $30 per month including all long distance calls and every feature available. AT&T Call Advantage is one of them, there are others if you want to do a search.
