Is the tax training offered by UA suitable for becoming an EA? If so, what is the EA pass rate for students taking the UA course? There are less expensive courses out there the specifically catering to those wishing to become EAs. However, I know the UA course will be very high quality and am willing to seriously consider it if it can prepare me for the EA exam. Thank you. Jennifer

JENNIFER: YOU ARE TRYING TO COMPARE APPLES TO PEARS. THE UNIVERSAL COURSE TEACHES YOU HOW TO DO TAXES AND HOW TO MARKET YOUR TAX BUSINESS.

THE EA PREP COURSES ARE DESIGNED FOR ONE THING ONLY. TO TEACH YOU HOW TO PASS THE EA EXAM. I KNOW A LOT OF EAs WHO NEVER HAVE PREPARED A CORP TAX RETURN BUT MANAGED TO PASS THE EXAM. IF YOU HAVE NEVER DONE TAXES AND WANT TO BE AN EA, EVENTUALLY YOU WILL NEED TO DO BOTH.

IS THE UNIVERSAL COURSE WORTH THE MONEY? ONLY YOU CAN DECIDE. I HAVE BEEN DOING TAXES FOR 22
YEARS, AND HAVE HIRED A CONSULTANT FOR $997.00 TO HELP ME GROW MY BUSINESS. MY PERSONAL OPINION IS IF YOU ARE NEW TO TAXES, THE COURSE IS EXTREMELY
REASONABLE.

I'm not sure how this answered my question. Are you saying that the UA course does not prepare somebody to pass the EA exam?

Jennifer, from what I read in the response you got the UA course is not designed to get you passed the 4 parts of the EA. It is however designed to show you the running of a successful taxation practice.

I am in the same situation as you are.

I sat for the exam in missed Part 3 by 9 points off the retention score so I must retake the exam this fall.

I am planning to use one of the programs geared to pass the exam and then come back and purchase the UA course to build the business once I have the EA credential.

I can see the need for both the UA course and the EA to build my business.

Hope this helps you.
