I have opportunity to take a QuickBooks certification. Am currently keeping books from home for a small business, in hopes to get more business. Have non-profit experience with Quickbooks - is the certification worthwhile? Will it add to job possibilities?

This will give you credibility when you're talking with a business owner, if you mention it. However, most business owners don't know to ask, so unless you bring it up, it won't help.

go to quickbooks.com and follow the links to become a quickbooks certified advisor. The fee is $549 (less if you have the software already-around $300).

Go to www.QuickBooks.com to find complete information. If you go to the partners section, there is a whole section on types of certification, cost, how to obtain, etc. The certification will then allow you to be listed on their "search" to find a partner section as well. However, I agree with the other persons comment that most businesses do not ask if you are certified. You may get some leads from this, but I wouldn't count on it.

I am a quickbooks certified proadvisor who is also keeping books from home. It in my opinion is not worth the money. The cert. is $549 the first year and $399 each subsequent years. However the certification itself does not bring you any business. It is just the first step in an expensive marketign plan, in order to make it work for you, you must aggressively market mostly through seminars and direct mail which is also very expensive. Intuit says that they will list you on their website however that was a complete waste of time !!! I am the ONLY advisor in my entire zip code and have not received even a phone call from any potential clients !!!
I really think that you'll get more clients through word of mouth and other advertising.
Lastly, a good reason that I feel that it was a waste of time is because none of your clients know what the devil a "Proadvisor" is anyway.
There are better ways to get new clients.

Hi,

I received my ProAdvisor Certification on a Thursday and got a call from someone in need on the next Monday. Maybe I just got lucky. I thought the program was good because the course has just paid for itself and gave me a bit more confidence.

Good luck

A certification is always better when you are working somewhere or you want to establish that you know those skills. Moreover Quickbooks certification is of a good value in the market and is considered in hiring decesions.

On the other hand if you are self employed then it may not be of much use because most people will not know its importance.

In addition to the QuickBooks ProAdvisor designation you may also want to consider being certified as a QuickBooks Specialist.

QuickBook certification is def. worth it. That's almost a must nowadays in accounting & bookkeeping. Almost every job I've seen requires you to know it. Excel is another program you should learn (knowing excel you can handle pretty much any spreadsheet program or visa versa).

Hello everyone,
I am a new user. I have a homebased Tax preparation and Bookkeeping business. I have been doing taxes for about 20 years, and Bookkeeping for about 8 years. I took an early retirement 8 years, and my homebased business supplement my retirment income nicely. I have about 75 Tax clients, and 5 bookkeeping clients. I am capping off at 100 tax clients, and 10 bookkeeping clients. I have Quickbooks 2005 or 2006 Pro, but I am not proficient with using it. Therefore, I am still using Quickens Business for the few BK clients I have. But I would love to be a proficient user of Quickbooks.

I reviewed Quickbooks Certification with both Quickbooks, and Universal Accounting, and personally, I think Universal Accounting is a better program. Especially in my situation. Since I am a beginner with Quickbooks, I need QB training from an introductory level. Universal Accounting offers that - it starts at a beginners level and works it way up conclusion, plus it comes with 6 months of email support.

"Quickbooks Certification is designed for accounting professionals already familiar with Quickbooks program" - this certainly does not meet my level of understanding of QB, as it has a level of "knowledge and Prerequisites" that one must meet.

Also, Universal Accounting provides more for your money, Cost wise as well as training. Universal cost of $385, includes both the Professional Bookkeeper's Guide to Quickbook (QB training), as well as Quickbook Specialist Certification. Quickbooks Certification costs $449, and one must already be familiar with QB and meet the level of knowledge and prerequisite requirement.

For a beginner user of Quickbooks, or someone like me who needs more training on QB, Universal Accounting - Professional Bookkeeping Guide to Bookkeeping is definite the way to go. I will most certainly be getting
with Universal Accounting soon to get started.

One thing you are missing with the QuickBooks Pro Adviser is the fact that you receive QuickBooks software, and unlimited support with the $399 each year and that is the new versions each year which is the accountant's premier version allowing you to work on your clients files from your version. This in itself is worth enrolling in the program.

Plus you can always pass on your discount to your clients. I work with QB
online and advertise the fact that I can get them up to a 50% discount and
FREE support if they sign up with me.
