I wanted to know if it's moral to get other professional price quotes of accounting fees. Then use the information in my presentation in obtaining new business? Basically like shopping around seeing what the competition is charging.

to discuss fees with a competitor is a violation of federal anti trust laws as well as possible state laws. what benefit could you possibly gain by comparing your fees to someone elses? NONE. in fact it could possibly get you sued.

Then how do you suggest figuring how much to charge in your local area? Every place is different and you don't want to charge way more than your competitors because you'll never get started in the business.

Chris,

We suggest that you base your fees on a set fee system as opposed to a hourly billing rate. My suggestion is to go to our website www.universalaccounting.com and request the free dvd. It covers not only how to bill your clients but also goes over three of the easiet and most effective marketing techniques if your looking to get more clients.

IT'S NOT ILLEGAL TO GET A QUOTE FROM YOUR
COMPETITOR. AS A MATTER FACT IT'S SMART AND IT MAKES SENSE TO FIND OUT WHAT THE OTHER GUY IS CHARGING. THIS WILL GIVE YOU AN IDEA ON WHAT YOU NEED TO CHARGE FOR YOUR SERVICES.
THE WAY TO DO IT, IS TO CALL ANOTHER CPA OR BOOKKEEPING FIRM/COMPANY AND SAY YOU ARE ABOUT TO OPEN A "SIGN SHOP" OR A "DRY CLEANING BUSINESS" IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS AND YOU WANT TO GET A QUOTE ON THEIR PAYROLL AND ACCOUNTING/BOOKKEEPING AND TAX SERVICES(GET IT ALL). IF THEY ASK WHERE IS GOING TO BE, BE PREPARE, YOU TELL THEM YOU HAVEN'T FOUND THE RETAIL SPACE YET AND YOU ARE STILL LOOKING. DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK THEM DETAIL QUESTIONS ON THEIR SERVICES(GET IT ALL). THEY WILL PROBABLY ASK YOU HOW MANY EMPLOYEES YOU HAVE AND HOW MANY TRANSACTIONS YOU WILL HAVE ON A MONTHLY BASIS(CHECKS YOU'LL BE WRITING). SO HAVE THE ANSWERS READY, IT WILL SHOW THEM YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WANT. YOU CAN TELL THEM ITS FOR A BANK LOAN.(BUSINESS LOAN).I WOULD CALL AT LEAST 6 DIFFERENT ACCOUNTING/BOOKEEPING SERVICES IN YOUR AREA. THE MORE YOU CALL THE MORE INFO YOU'LL HAVE.
I HAVE DONE THIS AND IT WORKS. NO MATTER WHAT BUSINESS YOUR OPENING. 100% FULL PROOF
GOOD LUCK

Universal suggests that you set fees based on the transactions not on an hourly rate. When you have a conversation with a client and the only response you have is a list of rates, you will end up competeing on price and price alone.

However, if you price your services based on transactions as UAC teaches, you will do a couple of things when giving a price.

First - To find the number of transactions you will be asking a number of detailed questions about their business and current accounting processes you get a much better idea of who they are as a business.

Second - They also have no doubt as to your knowledge based on the questions and process you just walked them through.

Third - Overcoming objections regarding the price is easy the way UAC teaches.

Fourth - Hourly rates only allow you to bill at the end of the month. I however, am able to bill clients at the begining of each month.

If you are a UAC student, contact me or your coach and we can discuss this with you.
