Just out of curiosity, I looked in my local phone book to see how many bookkeeping services were listed. I found 45 in the yellow pages, and I figure there's probably quite a few "small-time" outfits that either can't afford huge advertising fees and so don't list in the yellow pages, or simply don't need to advertise.

Here's my question: are there any general guidelines as to what is considered a good ratio of bookkeepers-to-businesses? The town I live in has approximately 60,000 population. I have no idea how many businesses there are. Is there a way I can find that out as well?

Thanks!

John,

Do not judge what work is available by how many accountants are listed in the yellowpages. Do the following, we offer a free dvd that talks about marketing and how to get clients that others can't. Go to www.universalaccounting.com and request the dvd. A coach will call you and discuss marketing. Maybe they can help you to figure out how to get a business started and get clients. Email me and tell me what town you live in and your zip code. I can find out how many registered business areas there are in your area.
