Hi,
I have a new client who currently uses QB pro for Mac but I use QB Pro 2005. I would love to be able to complete all the work offsite but I am uncertain about QB's ability to read files created on different operating platforms. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks! |

This is from the QuickBooks for Mac Sales page:
Share QuickBooks data with Windows users, including your accountant. Open QuickBooks for Windows files and .QBB back up files. Use the same menus as QuickBooks for Windows users.
Converts data from QuickBooks Basic, Pro, Premier and Premier Accountant for Windows, versions 2005 and 2004.

FAQ from QB for Mac Site:
Q: I use QuickBooks for Mac. My accountant uses QuickBooks for Windows. He can't help me out because our menus are different. Why aren't they the same?
A: They are now! New QuickBooks: Pro 2005 for Mac uses the same menus as the Windows edition. So you can take advantage of advice not only from your accountant but also from millions of QuickBooks for Windows users. You can also get help from other QuickBooks for Mac users in the QuickBooks for Mac Online Forum. And it gets even better! With Pro 2005 for Mac, it's even easier for you to get help from your accountant. Your accountant can open your QuickBooks for Mac files, edit them in QuickBooks for Windows, and send them back to you to open again on your Mac. |

| Although Intuit claims that the new version 5.0 is compatible across platforms, a quick Google search will bring up message boards with comments from Mac users that complain that it still does not work properly. The conversion feature apparently does not work with multiple conversions from Mac to Win and back again. I have a client who uses Mac, so I just went ahead and got a cheap Mac and bought the same version of the software that she uses. I do this with my Windows clients, too (buy the same version if they are using a different one and they don't want to upgrade). Having different versions available has been a benefit to my clients. |
