I will be having an interview with an employer for a bookkeeper position. Is it okay to market my bookkeeping service to him during the interview?

Hannah,

Yes it is. What you might do is to explain your experience and let them know what you have done. I would not try to offer your services at an hourly rate. You want to offer your services at a savings to the employer. You will want to offer a monthly rate instead of houry.

Also, give them a business assessment or other valua added service if you can. Good luck.

Thanks, David. that was very helpful.

David, let me share with you an experience i had with my part time employer. He has cut down my hours from 4hrs/week to 4 hrs/bi-weekly. He pays me $20/hr. I offered my bookkeeping service at $300/mo. And he refused. He wanted to keep me on his payroll. Can you tell me how to handle this situation?

Hannah,

Are you a Universal Accounting Graduate? If not, go to www.universalaccounting.com and request a free DVD. There is a part of teh DVD that will discuss Pricing and that will be very helpful to you. If however you are a graduate, contact our coach line and you can also ask for me and lets dicuss the pricing issue. The way that I do it and that we teach is to price a set fee just like you did. We calculate the fee by calculatig the number of transactions and multiplyinh by 50 cents. Then ad $100. Call me of you are a graduate and we can discuss this.

David
