| I was wondering how people approach other businesses with the question of getting excess clients from them. How do you word your letter. And how do you deal with the fact that most CPA's and most other businesses look at you as a scoundrel instead of looking at you as an asset? How do you handle the fact that most businesses want an accountant with a four year degree? I always say like Allen said in his Professional Bookkeeper program to let them know how you can save them money. But honestly, they laugh at me and push me out the door verbally. |

Jake,
If you were to approach a business owner and talk in terms of how you can help each other, people will probably be willing to help you. I use the line "Would it makes sense to get together and see how you can assist my clients and how I can assist you or your clients?" This has always caused thought and usually at least gets a meeting.
CPA's tell us that their biggest problem is finding qualified staff to do their work.
I disagree that most business owners want a 4 year degreed accountant. Try explaining to them that degreed accountants have been trained in corporate accounting not small business accounting. What they want is someone who can help help them Lower Taxes and Increase Profit. Since we offer marketing support. Call them and lets role play what to say and how to get appointments.
