Hello!
I've just recently started my bookkeeping business and have a client who is very unorganized. The client has a retail type of business and have been keeping a records of inventory sold on paper, but sometimes forgets to record the sale.

I've thought about suggesting to the client the software offered by Quickbooks (I believe its sale point). My concern is whether that will take away from my billable hours of recording the sales onto the books.
Anyhow I think this will prevent loss sales records.

Does anyone have experiece in the software that I'm referring to?
Please advise.

QuickBooks makes a retail version of Premier and also a product called Point of Sale. Point of Sale acts as a cash register. It's job is to track inventory and allow for face to face sales. It then exports daily sales information to the regular QuickBooks file. I currently have one client using POS and it is much more complex than just using QuickBooks itself. He has a large volume of inventory and does a lot of face to face selling. Tell us more about your retail client.

What do you mean by it is much more complex than just usingn QB itself? Are you indicating use of a support program like POS?

My clients retail business is a Day Spa with products and service combine at time of sale. I need a program that will work effortless with QB that will eliminate the client from manually writing up a sales slip and possibly losing the sales slip.

I guess the question is should I purchase POS or the premier retail version?

personally i wonder if POS is overkill? POS is a very good program but I
do not know if the cost can be justified for the small change type of products
that this type of business has. If you do not mind not using qb I would recommend using visual bookkeeper by A sytems. This is the program that
I use instead of QB if I am deciding the software to use for the client.

What I was saying is that POS is expensive and its setup is more complicated since it communicates back and forth with QuickBooks financial. You still haven't indicated the amount of volume but if you don't have a lot of inventory you may want to try the Premier Retail version instead. It really depends on if your client wants to use a cash register based system or not.
