I am curious to know what other services you practitioners offer in addition to bokkeeping.

I hope to get started with BK clients and offer other services after or in conjunction as I attain clients.

Also, are any of you good folks CPAs?

Thanks for your responses.

Bryan has good suggestions. I find it depends on your client and how sophisticated / large / organized he is. You could offer...and he may ask you!...to perform anything that he can't / doesn't know how to / doesn't have time for; such as paying his bills, bank recons, collection of his a/r, filing his payroll taxes, completing all types of forms such as insurance reports, safety & accident forms, renewing his licenses......Good Luck!!!!!

Along with full charge bookkeeping, you could offer tax preparation (if your comfortable in the tax environment). It's great money to be had in that area, especially since your doing the books also. Angela

Do you know where training can be found for business loan package preparation? I would like to offer loan packaging as a service.

Universal has a great book called Financing a Small Business. It trains you what you would need to do to create a full business loan package. It also shows you alternate forms of financing. The book also has a section on how to incorporate. Another great service.

Those are all great suggestions, which I offer myself. Also, there are number of "little" things you can do for your current clients. (When prospecting, without naming any particular client of yours, let them know what you are doing for one or more of your current or past clients.) The "little" things like this impress your clients more than you can imagine, at very little cost or effort. One suggestion I can offer; I typed up a customer information sheet for one of my clients(auto repair), name, address, and type of vehicle they are having worked on, etc. I bought two inexpensive clipboards, attached the forms, a pen, then at the bottom I added:

"If you are claiming sales tax exemption, please enter your tax id number"

"Please fill out the opposite side of this form to claim tax exemption."

The customer flips the form over, and it has the state sales tax exemption certification form. I also inserted my clients name and address preprinted for those clients of his that won't fill out the form without that vendors info already filled out, which saves my client the time and effort to fill it out himself. I also highlighted the places the customer needs to fill out, so they don't have to think about. This kills 3 birds with one stone, I am able to get all of the customer information (that I use to send out advertisements when his business slows down), it shows the state that my client is complying were they to walk in and ask for his exemption forms and invoices. It also helps me to associate invoices, with the deposits in the bank, which is not always clear. And, I have the sales tax id's on file.

I hope this helps you.
