Hi,
I got a call from an interested prospect. They are interested in going with my service...but they want to see a resume so they can review my background. What type of information needs to be on a resume when you are self employed and have your own company?

Information about my past employment or should it list the clients I have now? But I believe the clients I have now are confidential so I wouldn't want to give that out. It's not like I'm trying to be their employee or anything.

Has anyone been in this type of situation?

I send my resume updated with my last employment as me, and my business. I don't give a list of clients then, and only do so for references. Even then, I make sure the client-prospect is serious, and someone I want to do business with before giving the list of references.

Remind your prospects that just as they would expect confidentiality from you as their accountant, you do not share that information about other clients.

However, the real issue at hand is not a referral, what they are asking is if you know how to help their business. Make sure you address it directly and use your presentation book or the marketing cd.

You might try a functional resume' or a brochure.
