Hi,

right now I am working as a Bookkeeper, and I recognize that I really need more training. My hope is that once trained in areas that I am now weak in - adjusting entries, depreciation, inventory, taxes... that I can be able to do some freelance work in addition to my 9 to 5 job.

I know UAC has a course, but there is also the AIB, which also offers a CB program.

What is the difference in being trained as a PB vs. CB?

I am in California, and would also like to be able to do taxes, both individual and corporate. I want a good solid program of training, but be cost effective. AIB seems cheaper than UA, but UAC seems to have much better support...

If anyone is experienced with AIB please share, and also please share with me the differences between the two options.

Thank you

Here is an earlier post that may help to answer your question.

Professional Bookkeeper compared to Certified Bookkeeper

I made up my mind, and signed up for the UAC PB and Tax courses. AIPB dosen't offer the type of support that UAC offers, and from doing my due diligence, UAC's curriculum seems to be pretty comprehensive.

After I finish I plan to take on some clients in addition to my full time Bookkeeper job...

If you live in California you will need additional training outside the
Universal course. At least until they can get approved by the state.

Hi Metanoia,
I'm about half way through the Universal Tax course. I'm impressed so far. It is quite complete. A few years ago I took the H&R block course it was also good but didn't realy cover business returns. Block has other courses but around here you need to be employed by them. I think McDonnalds is paying better!

Good luck and be prepared to put in quite a bit of time.

Richard's post stating that you need additional training in California is true to offer tax services. UAC trains and is approved in both Oregon and California as a tax training provider. Specifically you can get from UAC the CTEC training needed.

Like you Roy, I am also doing the tax course, and I also had a knowledge of a basic income tax class here in Mt. Pleasant, but it was through Liberty Tax Service. If I compared the two courses, I would take this one, cuz this one goes in more details and all that that Liberty with their basic class doesn't cover, and their motto also is, that if they don't encounter it in their tax seasons, they don't teach it, so I took this course, so I can learn how to do stuff that places like H&R Block and Liberty doesn't cover, plus I'm also kind of itching to have a go at this tax preparation thing as soon as I take my exam in a few months.

I just started Lesson 2 in Module 2, and it is pretty interesting as a course, and I feel that when people order this course, they will learn more than you would at a tax office or going through a tax office, even though tax offices vary on what they deal with and what they don't.
