Hi, I'm new to the forum and new to accounting. I currently live in Guatemala, but sell life insurance in the U.S. through the internet, using a VOIP telephone. I am seriously looking at accounting as an addition to what I currently do. I have a degree in financial planning and the feel that accounting would not be a difficult transition.
My question concerns the feasibility of doing accounting for small business owners from a distance. I have good mail service to the USA and good phone service at reasonable prices. I was told that it would be impossible to sell life insurance from Guatemala, but have managed to develop the system and the support needed (in the states) to make it work. With accounting I don't yet understand all the pieces of the puzzle.
What obstacles would I face from not being able to see my client face to face? Is it even possible to do accounting from a distance? I haven't yet purchased Universal's program, and would like to have a clearer picture of what I'm facing before investing. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Jesse |

Jesse,
This is posible but the question is not can you DO the wok from a distance, it's how do you get clients from a distance.
You can manage and do work electronically but it is going to be a similar problem getting clients for accounting as it was for insurance. |
