I'm thinking of promoting an early bird special on my tax prep business by distributing flyers on local car windows. I was wondering if anyone here has tried this, and with what results?
Also, does anybody know of any legal restrictions, such as distance from a competing business, etc? There are several offices of those overpriced franchises in nearby strip malls....my ad won't mention them by name, of course...but I don't want to get myself in trouble by distributing too close to their office...thanks for any help.

| This may or may not be true but I heard somewhere that putting flyers on car windshields may get you in trouble because it's considered littering. I also thought about doing this but was concerned about legal issues. |

| Hamilton... There are too many other, more effective ways to market... Some cities have ordinances against it. |

| Thank you, gents. I've been trying to find out the local ordinances, but have not been able to get a response. To date, I have only done taxes for friends and neighbors, and am looking to expand a bit. Thanks for the input. |

| Hamilton... What have you done with the PB 12 marketing steps or the PTP 9 steps in the curriculum? Have you been following the curriculums instructions for marketing? |

I doubt you really need a good attorney as I do not see anyone getting into a legal mess over windshield flyers but I agree you need to forget it. They are annoying and may even cause "badwill". |

I agree you probably do NOT need a good attorney. A bad one would suffice. In fact it might be cheaper to pay the fine and move on. The only lasting effect would probably be the damage done to your reputation.
If you can live with that I say GO FOR IT |

Car flyers are annoying. :x
I would not use a service that left one on my window.
Most people do not want someone around their car. Possible scratches from keys hanging out of the distributors pockets, etc.
Bad marketing plan. I agree with David, there are effective ways to market your business.
Drop you flyers off at your local Chamber of Commerce if you are a member.

| Thank you all. I had decided quite some time ago actually not to do this, it was just a passing thought. I have been finding other outlets for my flyers, and subsequently I did find out that there is an ordinance against it, although the fines are very small. Thanks again for your input, everybody. |

That's why you put your competitor's name on the flyer. 8) |

Good One Steven.
I think Hamilton knows how we feel about car flyers.
I think it's great that we have this forum to run our ideas by.
Hamilton, best of luck in the other outlets you have found.

Hello Hamilton,
I just wanted to say that it is good to have this forum. You guys are tooo funny!
I was told years ago that if you have the owner's permission of the business that you could place flyers on cars. But, not the way to go. You know that now. I put 1/2 flyers in with my marketing letters and business cards with the list of services that I offer. Along with that ever present theme, "PEACE OF MIND & MORE PROFITS WITH LESS WORK."
It works well, if you keep at it. It is hard to juggle everything sometime.
Good luck, Hamilton.
