Can you export files from QB2001 to a new QB2006.
ie., Chart of Accounts, Vendor List, Customer List.
Or, is it best to Upgrade 2001 first then export into a new company file in QB2006.
My client wants to keep the 2001 File and sell it to a new owner.
He wants to start a new company in 2006 and bring over the list above with zero balances (I know this is what will happen). My question is:
If I export from the 2001 file will they import okay to the new 2006 company file.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thank you,

Yes they will export fine. I've done this many times and it does go pretty smoothly. To keep the old files, just make a backup and you're are good to go.
I usually keep a copy of the exported files (customers, vendors, items etc.) in excel incase it all goes wrong (hasn't yet). I do the same if importing from other software applications.
Certain fields may differ somewhere along the way. But, don't worry about it. The raw data will be ok and that is what's important.

Just got back from this client.
They were using Pro 1999.
Exporting to Pro 2007 went off with no hitch.
I don't know why I get so nervous.
I did have a current backup just in case.
Thanks Again for your help Ben.
