Hello everyone,

This forum is awesome! I just found it, and am reading all of the posts.

I'm currently the accounting manager for a small, multi-divisional property service company. They have an office manager who does all of the day-to-day bookkeeping, but she really doesn't possess a strong accounting background. Needless to say, I am having to check the financials a LOT for accuracy. Anyhow, we currently use QB Pro 2006. I was wondering if there is any way to create a payroll summary report (basically a pre-check payroll summary) report BEFORE we run checks, to make sure everything is correct. I'm used to using accounting programs like Peachtree. I like QB for the most part, but I do find it is somewhat limited. I don't like the fact that you don't have the ability to TRULY close out a period, so that folks can't go back into a period once it's been "closed."

Is there anyway to create such a report? I know there is a Payroll Summary report that you can print, but it is VERY long if you print it for each employee. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks,

Michele

Yes, you are correct that is is difficult to run a pre-check of payroll before posting and the 2007 version helps a bit on this end. There are a few ways in order to help you, but ultimately, you do get a pretty lenghtly report.

As for closing out the period. You can close out a period so that no changes can be made. You must go under preferences (as the adminstrator) and once your month-end is done, you close that period out. It is found by going to: Edit - Preferences - Accounting - Company Preferences and at the bottom you will find your closing date and ability to set a password.

Sorry I could not help on the payroll, but hope the information for closing the period helps.

Hi, Michelle

Have you tried copying the payroll data to Excel? I've done that with other reports, with great results. Once it's in Excel, I can massage the data to appear as I want.
