On other post people are asking about the best accounting software to use.
If you want to be working as a freelance bookkeeper you must learn, master and be an expert on whatever software your target customers are using.
The basic client is debating between
-using his manual or excel system that is working right now (for free) and doing it himself or the reasons why he should be paying you X amount for doing his bookkeeping.
Does he already own bookkeeping software or it will be your job to introduce him to the most cost effective and useful software for his kind of business. And most important. Is this software userfriendly and easy to use.
You must convince your potencial client that your service is essencial and will save him time and money. And also will relief his mind of worries about the paper work and sometime including tax filing documentation so he can concentrate more on running his business and create income and sales.
Do some of the above tips and you will get yourself a new client. |

You should choose an accounting software package if:
• You extend credit to customers and you buy goods with credit
• You process in excess of 50 transactions per month
• Your business is an Incorporated Company
• You are computer literate or are willing to learn! |

I think many accounting software companies overstate the simplicity of their software for small business owners. They again and again say how easy it is to use -- which it could be if you're just entering expenses or invoices. But many times for companies, it isn't just about entering expenses or invoices. There's definitely a need for accounting knowledge in order to use the software properly. I've seen people try to do their own bookkeeping thinking that QB or PeachTree are the easiest tools on the market, and that the need for an accountant is gone with this software. But in the end, they mutilate their own books to such an extent that they would probably pay three times as much as they would've paid originally for an accountant to fix it up for them. So it may be wiser to skip buying software and to pay an accountant to do it on his software. |
