| I just recently started getting this error when doing a backup to my flash drive. Any thoughts as to why? I tried using an empty flash drive and that didn't make a difference. |

Jen: I am only guessing. Is the file you are backing up unaccessable??? |

Hi Richard,
I don't know why it would be all of the sudden? |

Does your flash drive have some sort of security lock? I remember on my old Memorex TravelDrive, I would sometimes accidentally lock it without even knowing it and it would give me write errors.
Also, if that isn't an issue, you may want to test your drive with some sort of utility like HDTune to make sure that your drive isn't corrupt. Flash memory is kind of hit and miss and even though it may run well for a while, sometimes the drives just die. My current OCZ drive worked just fine for four months and then it started corrupting and constantly connecting and disconnecting so I could never manage to finish saving files. :( |

Hello Jen,
You said that you tried using an empty flash drive.
Does that mean that you formatted the flash drive that was giving you problems?
If so, that will also erase the .exe files and program files as well that are necessary for the flash drive to work properly. But, you may know that.
Jennifer, do you use more than one flash drive, or other devices to save your work?
One thing that can cause a problem especially if you work with more than one computer is making sure that the file is marked in the properties, before saving as a shared file.
If I think of anything else to help you on this I will get back with you by email, or on this forum. Also we are only a few miles apart, so I may give you a call and come by if you like.
Take care Jennifer,
Monica |

Hi Monica,
No, I haven't formatted the flash drive. I just stick it in the USB port, it's acknowledged and I save my work to it. Haven't gotten any more technical as that. I've only been using one flash drive and I only have the one laptop.
Thanks for the help. I am still able to do the online backup, but just liked also having the backup on my own device.
Take Care,
Jennifer |

Hello Jennifer,
I think I have your phone number and your email. I will try to give you a call.
What brand is the flash drive? How much space gigabytes, etc?
Do you have high speed internet?
Always try to keep several flash drives if at all possible. If not back up on cd's or buy additional flash drives of a different brand. Attache' 512MG are good flashes, also Corsair, etc.
I have some that are 2 gigs. Please don't rely on QB backups, nor just one mode of backups, it will get you into trouble. I say this from experience.
Good luck to you,
Monica |
