| I plan to start freelance work in January 2004. Though I am confident that I can do the work, I am a little leary about not being able to fully meet the needs of my customers. Is there a freelance bookkeeper out there who can remember their first days and offer some advice to avoid pitfalls? Thanks!!! |

E'Vinita,
We have all felt "leariness" from one extent to another when we started out on our own. Personally, I felt very confident of my abilities until after my first interview with a potential client. I then sat back for several days wondering what I had gotten myself into.
Being a freelance bookkeeper (or an accountant, if you prefer) does not necessarily mean we will have the answers to all of our clients questions. I personally don't feel we should be afraid to tell a client when we are not certain of the answer and IMMEDIATELY follow it up with "but I will find out as soon as I can and get back with you."
Joining a good bookkeeping online forum can be a great resource for information and support.\
Best of luck!! |
