I used in my first year as a tax preparer. I found that the software is very simple to use, and worth the money you pay. However, the complexity of my clients returns grew very quickly, and I ended up buying a more robust tax software in later years.
Currently I have been using ATX software. Like ACT, it is very easy to use, and offers pretty much the same features as some of the higher priced software (i.e.: Drake, Pro Series, Lacerte). The software is very flexible and I recommend it hands down.
If you are preparing fairly simple tax returns, and are just starting out, I would recommend ACT.
Good luck! |

| True the features are the same as some of the proghrams you mention but ATX is at least $1000.00 more expensive. Also they had a lousy support record and finally were purchase by CCH. |

I'm not sure where you got your information, but I certainly did not pay any where near $1,000 dollars for the software. Not only that, but I have used their software for the last 5 years, and have had exceptional support whenever I needed it.
I have absolutely no complaints with ATX. |

| I have not idea what you paid. I was simply addressing your inaccurate statement that ATX is cheaper than the other software programs stated. As far as the support is concerned I was talking about the support in general. If you got good support that is fine. You were one of the lucky few. |

I have been using Tax Act for several years and have had no problems with it. Customer service has been great. The product has been outstanding, improves every year and is very reasonable on the wallet.
It is very user friendly and I have found that even for more complex returns, it has been fine but I knew what forms, etc I needed to fill out.

I used Tax Act this year for the first time. Prior to that I did use Turbo Tax. Tax Act was quite useful and relatively easy to use. Handled most everything I needed. The only downfall with the program was that it did not handle Federal Non-Resident returns.
Working with a number of clients who have work visas is interesting, but Tax Act missed the mark completely by not having a 1040NR module. The Non-resident pieces for the States worked well for US Citizens who crossed state lines to work and was not at all helpful for foreign citizens. |
