What's the best way to not lose potential clients because I don't do taxes? This is the time of year where people will start looking to hire someone to get their taxes done. My marketing coach suggested I "partner" up with someone who does taxes, where I hand in financial statements to the tax preparer, they do the taxes, and I bring the completed tax form to the client. I charge the tax preparer a "finders fee".

Did anyone ever try this? How did it work out? Do you charge a flat rate for the finders fee or a percentage of the tax return cost?

Thanks!

Don't fret Monica, I think your coach gave you good advise. I prepare taxes, but I am a bit of a novice so I forward more complicated returns to a CPA who charges me a discounted rate and I charge my clients directly. You should make anyone you partner with sign a non-compete.
