I am using the marketing letters for my friends and new businesses in the area. I am working on my list of business where I am a customer. Is it acceptable to customize a letter and send to CPA firms in the area as well asking for referrals or overflow business? I know some of them outsource work or are too full to accept new clients. What would be a good way to find these types of firms?

Sandra,

There are many ways to acquire clients. What you are talking about is a good idea. I am one of the marketing coaches for our PB students and I would be willing to assist you on these specific letters. Email me and we can put something together. My email is David@universalaccoutning.com

Hello Sandra and David,

I am about to embark on the same adventure and I was wondering 1)What David's advice was and if I might be able to get a copy of the letter used, 2)How successful it was for Sandra to target CPAs.

Sincerely,

Would love a copy too. I have been thinking about contacting CPAs for a while and have not been sure how to approach them.

The main thing is to followup. Also be prepared to show what your abilities are and any training that you have accomplished. Remember the CPA IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WORK YOU DO EVEN IF YOU ARE AN INDEPENDENT BUSINESS. YOU ALSO SHOULD GET LETTERS OF ACCEPTANCES FROM THE CLIENTS THAT THEY UNDERSTAND THAT THEIR CPA IS STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR REVIEWING AND APPROVING ANY WORK THAT YOU DO FOR THEM.

I was offering Sandra assistance as a coach to a Universal Accounting Student. She and other students have marketing assistance available to them and I am limited as to what I can offer in this forum because of my role as a coach to UAC students.

Thank you

Be carefull of the No-compete agreement. You may loose any opportunity to attain clients within 100 miles or more. If you want to work for a CPA firm, then ask for employment. If you want to generate your own clients, tax season is an excellent time to generate a batch of new clients. You can offer to get their tax returns done within a week, rather than wait for their CPA to generate them just before the end of the extension. This is a great time for cold calling, it's an inseason priority.

I gave a CPA a call two years ago and was able to get some work from him. Trying to do the same thing this year with another firm as the one from two years ago has sold his practice and I can't get work from the current owners.
