Hi
I currently work full time at a large electric utility company. I am interested in possibly working a homebased bookkeeping business on the side-keeping my day job. I am curious to know if there are many people who do their own bookkeeping businesses from home and work nights and/or weekends? Does it work out ok? etc? Have most been successful and turned it into a full time thing? Also, if there are pitfalls and discouragements- how did you handle it?
I am also curious to know if there is liability insurance that self employed people need/should have in case of a lawsuit. If so, is it a large cost of having your own business?
Thankyou for considering my questions:) |

Hello there.
As a supplemental income you should plan on doing the work for about 5 clients which should bring in around $1000 in revenue each month. To take care of those clients you should be prepared to work about 10 hours a week is all.
To see what others have experienced I would suggest hearing what Victoria shares about her accounting business.

As for the insurance, Error and Omissions is not necessary but is a personal choice.
Best Wishes
