I am about to break away from my firm and start my own at home bookkeeping service for a number of large and small clients that i have. I currently am using Quickbooks Accounting 2006, but i would like to get the newest version before i make the plunge to the new business. Before i go out and buy the newest Quickbooks i was just wondering if someone knows of any better bookkeeping software. Just something to make entries easily, print reports, and just maintain the books with no restrictions.

If anyone knows of any please let me know,

Stick with QB Pro. It is sufficient for all you need.

Try NolaPro. It is a free web based accounting software. Has everything you could possibly need.

Yea I agree, too common look for another program.
I mean you are actually targeting a portion of the market that others are not going after.
The absolute benefit of software knowledge that others do not know brings with it a certain versatility.
Keep also in mind that this new software package will create a learning curve, slow down your turn around time to your clients, so they can get information from you their new accountant even slower than their current one.

Congratulations on starting your own business--you'll love it! I just replied to another post with a similar question, so I'll repost it here for you:

QB Premier Accountant edition has a great Working Trial balance feature! You can enter the numbers from the client's trial balance, enter adjustments, and even enter workpaper references. Especially if the client is using QB--you can restore their back up file and drill down to the info to identify errors easier.

Premier Acct edition also includes a fixed asset manager and a financial statement designer. MANY accountants use it for client write up work--not just monthly bookkeeping for clients. It will also integrate with ProSeries and Lacerte for tax prep.

Have you checked into the ProAdvisor Program? When you join, you will get the current edition and all new releases during your membership (ie you'd get 2008 & 2009) of QB Premier Acct Edition. You also get QB enterprise--acct edition (single user), access to training materials, a dedicated tech support number (in Phoenix, AZ), and many more benefits.

I'm very QB biased--I love it!!!

As a peachtree user for many years, I've longed for the additional 3rd party software that is available for Quickbooks.

MYOB is a good package. It also runs on a Mac so a lot of media and design companies use it. Very user friendly.

If the option of becoming a QB Pro Adviser is in your budget, I would go there. If not, QB Pro is your next best option. Keep your 2006. Some of your clients might still be using it.

I've worked with both QB Pro and Premier. I'm thinking about starting my own accounting/tax practice in the next couple of years. If I do I'll go with Premier the Accountant Edition. It's a lot more versatile than Pro.

While you are learning, buying and testing new software to serve 15% of your target market. Your buddy sgbdad23 will be getting your potencial clients left and right and he will be training and installing quickbooks programs on all of them.

Make it easy to yourself and go with the flow, a small % share of quickbook users will give you enough business to keep you busy.

On the other hand is also fun to be unique and do thing your way, and try thing that nobody else is doing but if you decided to go on this venue to be successful you better be the best.
