|
|
We have been using Peachtree for about 9 years in our screenprinting business. I just took over the bookkeeping, although I have been doing the invoicing and deposits for a couple of years.
Our previous bookkeeper never used the account reconciliation feature. Apparently she reconciled using an excel spreadsheet. After reading the manual, I decided to try it. I am liberal arts graduate who took a little accounting in college.
When I pull up the account reconciliation screen, no entries come up nor does an error message. All the data is in the general ledger. All deposits have a deposit ID-checks are written but not by entering any invoices-just receiving the bill and paying.
We had a money market account which we have long since closed, but when I try to reconcile that account five or six entries do come up, which shows the feature does work.
I just purged up to 2006.
I would appreciate any insight you could give me about this problem.
Thanks!

I don't know how to use Peachtree, but I understand it is actually quite similar to QB in many respects. As I think of how reconciliation works in QB and what it might take for an account to be opened in the reconciliation screen and have no entries showing, I have to ask (and I apologize if this sounds patronizing--it's not meant to...I'm just trying to understand): What account are you trying to reconcile? Are you sure that account is selected when you activate the reconcile function? Are there transactions recorded in that account? Could you accidentally be opening another account in which no transactions have been recorded?
I say that because it occurs to me that the software may be using a default account called "Checking" or something, as QB would do, but maybe the owner didn't actually use that default account and has made no entries in it. Instead, might they have set up a different Bank account and called it "First Federal 1" or "Business Account" or something? |

I am trying to reconcile my checking account. It shows the account and its corresponding general ledger number in the selection box. You can only select active accounts-so I have not selected the wrong account. As I said, when I do this with the money market account, the transactions do come up.
The transactions are in the general ledger. In looking at the Peachtree knowledge base, there really is nothing that addresses this issue. I tried purging previous years, making sure that all the deposits have specific IDs and renaming the preferences file-all to no avail.
I have gotten a theory from a Peachtree user that there is file corruption. The only workaround I have been told is to create a new account and repost which is just too time consuming just to make the reconciliation feature work. I will do that at the beginning of 2009 though.
I take no offense and do not feel like you are patronizing-You are just making sure that it is not some basic problem.
Thanks for taking the time to help!

| You have to select the month and the account number that you are reconciling to bring up the transactions for that period. This should be done monthly. Since the program only stores 2 years of detail, these are the only periods you are able to reconcile. |
