Hey guys I just did a search about starting a book keeping business and found this site. I live in Louisiana and me and my wife plan on trying to have our first child in 6 months or so and she will have to take off work for the pregnancy due to medical issues. So naturally we need some solid home business to make up for the lost wages.

Would this course give someone with no experience at all the ability to start and run a successful book keeping business? My wife is in school and is close to her BA degree but its in history so no accounting classes. Also in Louisiana do we need any special licenses or degrees for it?

Also with the Professional Tax Preparer will we need any special licenses and such or continuing education to do this business? Thank you guys for your time, sorry to get state specific but Louisiana is one of two states that dosnt follow English common law and goes by Napoleonic code due to the French.

Any help is appreciated. Also if you work through this each weekend how long do you think it would take to be able to start the business and begin recruiting clients?

Suggestion: See if your wife knows someone that knows someone in accounting. Maybe they can give her a crash course in the basics. There are people who realize after they've spent their money that they hate accounting. Then if she likes what she's seeing and hearing, then she can purchase the course. You either love it or you hate it, almost no in between. Take it from me, I have a degree in Accounting and I almost got into some drag out, hair-pulling fights with my accounting textbooks  . But through it all, it's my passion.

As a current UAC student, I do believe that this course is wonderful and is catered to those who have absolutely no experience. I also suggest she watches the video clips on this website of Allen Bostrom to hear what he has to say. Since your wife has no experience or other exposure to accounting, it may take a little longer for her to get through the material. I estimate maybe 6 weekends but it varies from individual to individual, especially if she's like a sponge with the material. As far as recruiting clients, don't wait until the course is finished to start recruiting. If she decides to purchase the course, take a look at the marketing portion of Module 4 and get the ideas from there about recruiting.

As far as Louisiana law, I know how different it is and it can get a bit frustrating since it's so different than the other states. If Louisiana has a Board of Accountancy, start there. Ask them about their name-use laws such as the word "Accountant". Good Luck.
