|

| I have a client whose bank provides a .csv file of the bank transactions for the month. How can I upload (import) the data into QB so it doesn't have to be keyed into QB? |

You'll have to convert it to an .iif format. You can search the Intuit Markeplace for conversion software.
Caution: be sure to backup the QB file before importing! You may not like the results of the import, and if you have a fresh backup, you can restore it.
Take care. |

I've not used the feature, but my QuickBooks Pro 2007 provides for online banking. According to HELP, that permits the downloading/importing of transactions into QuickBooks. Am I misunderstanding the feature? I use Quicken for my personal accounts and the downloading/importing feature is fantastic and saves a lot of time.
Thanks,

I don't think I understand your question.
The only types of online banking files that can be imported to QB are .qbo and .iif. Other types of files cannot be imported directly - they must be converted to .iif.
Any type of import, but especially untested .iif imports, can go haywire. It's always a good practice to backup the QB file before importing.

Maybe I shouldn't have used the term "import". My QuickBooks Pro 2007 has an "Online Banking Center". Based on what I've read in the HELP files, I could use that to "download bank data".
This is from QuickBooks HELP - "With online banking (also called online account access), you can download electronic statements from your financial institution or credit card provider into QuickBooks. Then you can see what transactions have cleared your account, find out your current balance, and add transactions that have been processed but aren't in QuickBooks yet."
I directed my comment to you and not the OP because you are a "Certified QuickBooks Pro Advisor". I'm not and I didn't want to give out wrong information. I am quite familiar with QuickBooks, but have not used the online banking feature. I thought the OP might benefit from this information with any additional experience you might have to offer.
Thank you,
Rob |

Import = Download. Same thing. To download a file is to obtain a .qbo or .iif and import it into QB. |
