I was just typing a comment for qbconsultant when everything start shaking around me. At first I thought that somebody very heavy was running in the building but then I realize that is an Earthquake here in Santa Monica Ca. (Los Angeles).

Yep it was a 5.6 quake at 11:50am. I should be used to it by now except that today I was on the 7 floor next to glass windows and that shake me for a while. An yes I forgot to duck under my desk.

Don't they tell you to stand in the doorway during an earthquake?

I wouldn't know. I live in Florida, although we did have a very minor earthquake down here about two years ago. It was a tremor that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico and it was felt in Lakeland, FL.

Hi stasia2003

The frame of a doorway or under a table or desk is a safe place to be but I don't know if it will make a difference when I am in a 12 floor building and I am in the 7th floor. Anyway was just a scare, some books and binders flew by my head but that was about it. No damage in our building and in the outside area.

Earthquakes are very common in California but sometimes they got you really good.

It's funny too because just a month ago, geologists and earthquake specialists(LOL...seismotologists?) were saying that they predict a massive earthquake will hit California really soon. I can't remember the exact time frame though. Kind of eerie.

They taught us about the doorway and under tables in school, but in Indiana you aren't use to the earthquakes so when they hit you forget what you were taught. We had a good size earthquakes a few months ago with several aftershocks.
