Is the initial franchise fee, $10,000-$50000, a startup expense to be amortized over 60 months or can it be considered an ordinary operating expense in the year it was incurred? Possibly, depreciated? Certinly, the annual or monthly franchise % is an operating expense!

Franchise Fees are considered Intangible Assets under IRC 197 and are allowed to be amortized over 15 years begining in the month the franchise is acquired.
