Hello!

Does anyone have any suggestions for work at home bookkeeping services that can be offered remotely verses going into ones location other than to maybe pick up work if needed? What are the best industries to pursue for ar/ap services & how can you do the work from your location if your software is different from the client's? I know that excel can be used for various things but if you want to key invoices/ap vouchers, wouldn't you need access to the client's system?

Thanks in advance!

First of all, it's good to note that 65% of businesses do not have an in-house accounting system. Their transactions are all done with the checkbook they have in the offfice, or with cash. They rely on the accounting system that their contract accountant uses.

Most freelancers pick up information from the client's office and perform the work in their office with their chosen software. This can also be performed without a trip to the client, if the client is willing to fax the information over to the accountant's office.

If the client does use a software, and it's different from the accountant's choice, then the accountant may be able to take summary information and post it into his/her system then make adjustments. This is not optimal, but it's being done like that regularly. If you want to be most efficient, you'll want to have the same system as the client. In 80% of the cases, it's QuickBooks.
