why book keeping is important to small businesses is because it allows the owners to know exactly what is happening in their business. To make your business grows, you must know the numbers well. Details like revenue and expenses are important numbers that you cannot afford to miss out on.

If you are running a start-up, I will advise you to outsource book keeping to a professional accounting firm. As the number of transactions and details of your business are manageable, you do not need to hire a full-time book keeper. You can now easily find professional accounting firms that help you to maintain your book at an affordable rate.

To save hassles, it is advisable to maintain your book regularly. It should be done either weekly or bi-weekly. This is to ensure that all transactions are noted and enable you to know the current status of your business. Healthy cash flow is what makes a business flourish. You need to make sure that your business cash flow is always positive.

Professional book keepers will either use their own software or a spreadsheet to maintain your book. You must provide them with all the necessary documents such as receipts, invoices, payment vouchers, etc. All other documents that used to track the transactions of your business must be provided.

The price of a book keeping service usually depends on the amount of work that needs to be done. Depending on the size of your business and transaction volumes, book keepers will quote you a fair rate for the service.

If your business deals mostly with cash, it is extremely important that you get a book and record all the daily transactions. Cash is harder to track and therefore simple recording should be done daily.

Bookkeeping is the essential need for any kind of business because if you are recording each and every transaction with the help of good bookkeeping services(as they have plenty of experts) then the chances of mistakes eliminated and you keep a good record!

If you know where your business is and keep adequate records you will be able to make assessments for improvement. If you yourself analyze the financial information or you hire a CPA, keeping accurate financial information pays dividends to many of my clients.

Accounting or simple bookkeeping tells you where your business is heading and where the fat is, expenses which you need to cut on to be able to keep afloat. If your budget hinders you to hire a bookkeeper, there are still simple tutorials which you could use especially if your business is manageable. Being hands on in marketing a business is important but it pays that the owner themselves knows the figures as well.

james, you asked what does "ditto james" mean. did you get an answer to that questions? it just means that the person agrees with what you said. the word "ditto" is a shorcut sometimes used in writing or speaking. it is the name of a symbol on the computer keyboard that when placed under a word or phrase is an easy way of repeating the same word or phrase without rewriting it. the symbol is written like this "

However in speaking, or when used to express agreement, the name of the symbol "ditto" is said or written.

example: you wrote - These are some very useful and good tips for the small business bookkeeping so its very nice!
the other person wrote - ditto james.
he could have said instead - I agree. These are some very useful and good tips for the small business bookkeeping so its very nice!

Hope this helps you. What is your country of origin?

Since we are in recession, the knowledge of bookkeeping would make business owners know when to cut the fat in their expenses to stay afloat amidst the crisis hence; I think it is important that bookkeeping should also be learned by the owners and not solely of the accountant or bookkeeper.

Most entrepeneurs are idea people who hire others to thrash out details. They need to make certain that a system is in place to produce accurate financials in a timely manner and, above all, read the financial statements.
