A C-Corp. client has three shareholder loans on his books that have not been accruing interest or being paid down. He can't find any paperwork and doesn't even remember what they were for. I've tried to contact past accountants but the first one has Alzheimers and the last one did not bother to try to get any information from him or the business owner. I have no idea when these loans were put on the books. How should I handle them? I realize interest must be accrued but how far back should I start? I would say they been on the books a minimum of 5 years, but most likely longer.
